October 2018 saw the introduction of the Praetor 500 by Embraer at the NBAA convention.
It is a derivative of the Legacy 450, sharing the same fuselage and wings but with a greater fuel capacity that matches that of the Legacy 500.
Praetor 500 flight tests began on 13 September, 2018. Embraer received the Brazilian type certificate in August 2019, followed by EASA and FAA approval towards the end of September. Delivery of the first Praetor 500 took place on 23 December of that same year.
The Praetor 500 is powered by two rear fuselage mounted Honeywell HTF7500E turbofan engines, each producing 6,540 lbf of thrust. It has a take off distance of 4,222 ft and a landing distance of 2,086 ft, and is thus capable of flying between smaller or more challenging airports, such as Angra dos Reis in Brazil.
The aircraft has full fly-by-wire technology, active turbulence reduction and Rockwell Collins’ ProLine Fusion flight deck. It features a six ft tall, flat floor cabin and 5,800 ft cabin altitude. Maximum capacity is for nine passengers.
The Praetor 500 can fly non stop from Miami to Seattle, or Los Angeles to New York, and is capable of reaching Europe from the west coast of the US with a single stop.
