Overview

The G500 and G600 are a whole new family of fixed wing jets, originally unveiled by Gulfstream in October 2014. They have a wider fuselage than the G650, but retain the typical Gulfstream T tail configuration and swept wings. They have tricycle-type, retractable landing gear with twin wheels on each leg.

The G500 earned FAA type and production certification on 20 July, 2018, and EASA certification on 11 October 2019. It entered service in September 2018. The G600 entered service on 8 August, 2019 after it earned its FAA type and production certificates on 28 June that year.

The G600 has officially received FAA and EASA certification of improved take off performance operations on grooved runways in wet conditions; G500 certification was tracking for early 2022.

Prior to certification, Gulfstream had ensured the G500 and G600’s maturity with a high-speed G500 world tour spanning nearly 130,000 nautical miles and achieving 22 city-pair speed records.

Both aircraft are certified to Stage 5 noise standards, and both have achieved steep approach certification. They share increases in efficiency and reductions in emissions; faster flight means fewer flight hours and longer periods between scheduled maintenance visits.

Many system features and fly-by-wire flight control technologies are the same as on the G650, but the flight deck is a new generation developed by BAE Systems. The Symmetry Flight Deck features active control sidesticks that increase visual and tactile feedback between pilots. Ten touch-screen displays and Phase-of-Flight intelligence enhance operational efficiency and redundancy while providing intuitive access to essential information.

The Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) allows authorised pilots to land without natural vision in low-visibility conditions, increasing access to airports and reducing go-arounds. A Synthetic Vision-Primary Flight Display, featuring 3D graphics of terrain and runways, further boosts pilots’ situational awareness.

Systems for oxygen, cabin pressurisation, landing gear control and aircraft health and trend monitoring are adapted from the G650, but are more fully integrated with the Symmetry avionics system. The cabin has an altitude of 4,850 ft at FL510, and of 3,000 ft at FL410.

The G600 is a longer range jet than the G500. At its near-supersonic high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90, the G600 can connect New York and Dubai, London and Beijing, or Los Angeles and Shanghai nonstop.

The G600 can seat up to 19 passengers and sleep up to 10, the G500 can sleep up to eight. Each cabin has an extra seven inches of legroom between seats, and larger windows for more light; 12 on the G500 and 14 on the G600. The cabin features a new media system that allows up to 19 personal devices to stream while in flight.

Both types are powered by two rear-mounted Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 series turbofan engines. The G500 has PW814GAs each with 15,144 lb thrust that give it a range of 6,200nm at Mach 0.85, and 4,800 nm at Mach 0.90. It requires a take off distance of 5,300 ft with a maximum take off weight of 79,600lb. Maximum cruise altitude is 51,000ft.

The G600 has two PW815GAs with 145,680 lb thrust each, that give it a range of 6,600nm at Mach 0.85, and 5,600nm at Mach 0.90. Take off distance is 5,700 ft with a maximum take off weight of 94,600lb and a maximum cruise altitude of 51,000 ft.
