Engine MRO provider StandardAero is celebrating 60 years of supporting Pratt & Whitney Canada's PT6A turboprop. The PT6A engine family powers a broad range of aircraft types in service with business, general aviation, commercial and military operators worldwide.

In 1964, Dallas Airmotive, which was subsequently acquired by StandardAero in 2021, became the first independent MRO provider to enter into an agreement with Pratt & Whitney Canada for the PT6A turboprop, which had received Canadian and U.S. certification approval the prior year.

Today, StandardAero supports the PT6A engine from four overhaul locations worldwide: its centre of excellence for turboprop engine MRO in Summerside, PEI, Canada, which processed its first PT6A in 2000; Gonesse, France, which processed its first PT6A in 1975; Lanseria, South Africa, which opened in 2010; and Brisbane, Australia, which opened in 2013. Operators are also able to benefit from access to 11 StandardAero PT6A service centres across North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

StandardAero is proud of its 60-year association with supporting the global PT6A operator community,” says Lewis Prebble, president, airlines and fleets for StandardAero. “The PT6A engine family truly is part of our DNA, and this is reflected in the passion that our worldwide team of highly trained employees demonstrates in supporting the PT6A operator base. We look forward to being there for the PT6A community for decades to come.”

Pratt & Whitney Canada has built more than 50,000 PT6A engines since 1963 of which 25,000 are still in service, and we continue to build around 1,000 new PT6As each year,” says Irene Makris, vice president, customer service for Pratt & Whitney Canada. "These dependable engines support more than 10,000 customers operating corporate transport, medevac, military training, cargo, agricultural, humanitarian and countless other missions. We rely on our network of highly skilled designated overhaul facilities like StandardAero to provide OEM-level services to our vast customer base. We welcome StandardAero's continued contribution to our global service network serving PT6A customers.”

Ranging in power from 500 shp to over 1,900 shp, PT6A engines are available in more than 70 models, offering unsurpassed flexibility and capability for a variety of applications. Members of the family currently power aircraft with over 8,000 operators in more than 180 countries and having accumulated over 500 million flying hours.

StandardAero is the world's largest independent Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A designated overhaul facility. The company supports the global PT6A operator community from four DOFs located in North America, Europe, Africa and Australasia, backed up by a global network of 11 service centres and over 20 dedicated mobile repair technicians. With 60 years of reliable turboprop experience, StandardAero provides operators with a nose-to-tail suite of services, including repair schemes, re-engineering STCs, engine exchanges, rentals and engine condition trend monitoring analysis.
