ETS and CORSIA requirements are complex and still evolving. IBAC's goal with this guide was to help business aircraft operators gain understanding of the potential impact of these schemes on their flight operations.

The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) has released a new guide, Aiming For ETS & CORSIA Compliance, this week at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) 2024. The IBAC Guide provides insight into complying with the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, its Swiss and UK counterparts and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), introduced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Additionally, IBAC has scheduled a free webinar on June 26th to review highlights from this guide and share insight with business aircraft operators on determining to what extent an organization’s operations may be subject to any of these schemes.

Capt. Claude Hurley, FRAeS, IBAC Director, Environment & Flight Operations, underlines the importance of the new guide, stating, “ETS and CORSIA requirements are complex and still evolving. Our goal with this guide was to help business aircraft operators gain a better understanding of the potential impact of these schemes on their flight operations. We are fortunate to have worked with renowned subject matter expert, Martina Becher, to develop this first of its kind ETS and CORSIA Guide for the bizav community.”

Martina Becher, ETS & More Consultant states, “It has been a pleasure working with Claude and the IBAC team on this project. Having been involved in ETS compliance since 2009, observing the continuous increase of complexity linked to those regulations, we have strived to filter all the relevant information into one concise guidance document to serve as main reference for aircraft operators globally. Given the evolving nature of these regulatory efforts, a document of this size can’t fully cover all aspects, however, it will help operators determine what to consider regarding these schemes and provide useful links to additional information and contact details for further advice. The guide and webinar will also provide a foundation and understanding of the requirements when working with third-party organizations that can assist with compliance.”

“We are excited to share this guide with the business aviation industry and look forward to hosting the webinar later in June. My appreciation goes to Claude and Martina for their hard work putting this valuable document together. This resource will provide operators significant insight to these out-of-sector measures implemented by States as part of the range of tools to help aviation reduce carbon emissions,” comments Kurt Edwards, Director General, IBAC.

The one-hour complimentary webinar, Carbon Emissions Regulations in Business Aviation: IBAC's Guidance and Introduction to EU, Swiss, & UK ETS and ICAO’s CORSIA" is open for registration. The IBAC ETS & CORSIA Compliance Guide is available for preview and download at ETS-CORSIA Guide.
