Universal Aviation Dominican Republic, chosen by airport operator Aerodom in late 2023 to remodel and manage the general aviation terminal at Gregorio Luperon International airport, has completed the remodelling of the facility.

"We were thrilled to be selected to oversee the remodelling and management of the Puerto Plata GAT. Our team moved swiftly to upgrade the facility, ensuring it met the high standards and growing demand from high-profile customers visiting the country's North Coast in time for the peak spring break season," says UA senior vice president Adolfo Aragon. "It was a very smooth and coordinated process, thanks to the support of Aerodom and its supportive local team in charge of all the airport operations. With the GAT now fully operational, we anticipate a notable uptick in traffic to Puerto Plata, as the area has seen enormous investment in tourism development."

The remodelled GAT, now spanning 301sqm, introduces many improvements, including a passenger and crew lounge complete with immigration services, enhanced safety measures, a larger ramp and expanded amenities, including a new in-flight catering facility, cafe and complimentary shoe-shine stand.

Universal Aviation Dominican Republic's contract to manage the GAT also includes plans to lease land for additional hangar space, signalling a broader strategy to enhance regional aviation services. Introducing remote parking for long-term stays aims to enhance safety and convenience for passengers travelling to the FBO. Additionally, the proximity to a yacht marina enhances the appeal for travellers seeking a seamless luxury experience.

"This development aligns with the government's significant infrastructure investments in Puerto Plata and renewed interest in promoting the area as a burgeoning tourist destination," says UADR partner and country manager Danilo Rosario. "Operators can now benefit from top-tier amenities in this strategic location, offering convenient access to the prestigious and world-famous resorts just one and a half hours away. We have elevated the user experience in Puerto Plata FBO by incorporating exclusive concierge services, valet parking, barista coffee, a buffet and signature menu for air catering, covered luggage carts, mini-van transfers to the aircraft, as well as high-speed internet on the ramp."
