California-based Part 135 operator Sun Air Jets has partnered with rating system 4Air for verification of its programme to offset carbon emissions.
“We are excited to partner with 4Air as we continue Sun Air's journey along the path to carbon neutrality. 4Air's expertise and credentials will allow us to verify our contributions to a cleaner planet” says president and CEO Brian Counsil.
This commitment, along with other company sustainability initiatives, reinforces the company's dedication to reducing its overall environmental impact and will further enhance its sustainability programme. Working with an industry leading carbon offsetting company allows it to greatly reduce its carbon footprint.
“4Air not only offers turnkey sustainability solutions but, as the only rating system for private aviation emissions reduction, will evaluate and verify Sun Air Jets' sustainability programme,” says president Kennedy Ricci. “We can give Sun Air Jets, its stakeholders and its customers the assurance that the programme is meeting its goals and reducing emissions at levels equal to those generated by the flights.”
Sun Air Jets' participating flight can be certified 4Air Bronze, indicating that their operation is carbon-neutral by virtue of offsetting all of their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions with verified carbon offset credits. These credits will fund specific, verified, real-world projects intended to offset carbon emissions.
This partnership extends Sun Air Jets' commitment to sustainability. Under a previous programme, Sun Air Jets purchased credits in 2021 that offset emissions equal to 4,452 metric tons of carbon.
Sun Air Jets' Camarillo airport and Van Nuys airport facilities are both Certified Tier 1 Green Aviation Businesses via NATA; a commitment designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase the use of environmentally friendly energy sources, reduce waste and encourage sustainability. Its facilities feature sustainable design with solar roof arrays, EV charging stations, refillable water stations to eliminate single-use drink ware and motion- sensing LED lighting.
Beyond emissions, the company appreciates that pollution extends to noise, affecting the communities in which it operates. This is why it subscribes to the Van Nuys Airport Quieter Nights programme, for which it is repeatedly given the Friendly Flyer Award.
