Development of the 2000EX, an upgraded variant of Dassault’s Falcon 2000, began in October 1999. It was announced at NBAA on 10 October, 2000, a prototype was rolled out on 19 July, 2001 and it made its maiden flight on 25 October, 2001. Two aircraft completed 568 hours of flight testing in 242 flights, culminating in JAA and FAA certification on 21 March, 2003.
The first three ‘green’ production airframes were delivered to the Little Rock, Arkansas completion centre in January 2003, with the first customer deliveries of outfitted aircraft
entering service in May 2003.
Dassault replaced the CFE engines of the Falcon 2000 with more powerful, FADEC-equipped Pratt & Whitney Canada PW308C turbofans, giving the 2000EX an increase of nearly 1,000 nm. Its climb rate was increased by about 600 ft per minute, MTOW went up to 42,200, and its fuel capacity was increased by 3,800 lbs.
Early Falcon 2000EXs retained the Collins Aerospace Pro Line 4 avionics suite, but those delivered from 2004 were equipped with the Dassault EASy flight deck. The Falcon 2000EX EASy is an upgraded 2000 with longer range and advanced EASy avionics in the cockpit. It also underwent changes to the pressurisation and oxygen systems. It first flew on 29 January, 2003 and received FAA and EASA certification on 22 June, 2004. Steep approach trials were completed at London City airport on 18 March, 2010.
In 2007 came the Falcon 2000DX, announced on 8 November, 2005 and equipped with the same PW308C turbofans and EASy cockpit but with a shorter range of 3,250 nm. It made its first flight on 19 June, 2007 and that aircraft was the first delivery on 17 September later that year. EASA certification was awarded on 19 September and FAA on 3 October, 2007. Entry into service came in March 2008, replacing the Falcon 2000, and production completed after just four units.
On the eve of EBACE 2007, Dassault announced the 2000LX, a modification of the 2000EX EASy equipped with winglets. Its range was increased by about five per cent to 4,000 nm and the climb rate was improved. A trial installation had flown 128 hours in 35 flights on a 2000EX testbed in the US during August 2006.
It was available as a retrofit on the production line from early 2008, and was standard from 2010 following certification by EASA on 23 April, 2009 and by the FAA on 29 April. The first conversions of existing aircraft appeared in 2009. The LX was replaced by the LXS by the end of 2013.
The 2000LXS had EASy II avionics standard, full length inboard slats for improved airport performance and a greater payload. quieter. Its range at Mach 0.80 was 4,000 nm. EASA certification was granted on 11 March, 2013 and FAA certification followed shortly after. The first delivery was made in 2013.
The 2000S was announced on 16 May, 2011, although a first flight of the engineering prototype had already taken place on 17 February that year. The super midsize jet had a range of 3,350 nm and replaced the Falcon 2000DX, while borrowing the wing high-lift system from the 900LX. It was granted EASA certification on 11 March, 2013 and by the FAA later the same month. The first delivery took place on 16 April, 2013.
The initial 20 production Falcon 2000S aircraft had a 10 seat interior, but eight seat interiors were offered from 2014.
Upgraded variant of Falcon 2000 with longer range, PW308C engines and advanced EASy cockpit. Includes 2000EX, DX, LX, and current LXS and S models
