The executive aviation superintendent director of Lider Aviacao, Bruna Assumpção, has been awarded the Order of Aeronautical Merit, one of the highest honours granted by the Brazilian Air Force. The medal, created in 1943, recognises Air Force personnel who have rendered notable services to the country or have distinguished themselves in the exercise of their profession, as well as individuals and organisations that have rendered relevant services to the Air Force and the country.
Assumpção, who assumed her prominent position at the largest executive aviation company in Latin America at the beginning of the year, has dedicated herself to improving the sector and focusing on innovation, safety and excellence in customer service.
She says: “I was very excited and honoured to receive this award, especially knowing that I am following in the footsteps of my grandfather, who did so much for aviation in Brazil.”
The award has a special meaning for Assumpção and for the history of Lider Aviacao as on 20 September, 1985 her grandfather and founder of the company, commander José Afonso Assumpção, received the same award. Almost 40 years later, Líder’s legacy continues to be recognised for its contribution to Brazilian aviation. In addition, the company’s former CEO and current chairman of the board of directors, Eduardo de Pereira Vaz, was also honoured with the same award in 1998, reinforcing Lider Aviacao's connection with the history of aviation in the country.
Over the years, the Order of Aeronautical Merit has been awarded to a select group of individuals, and it is notable that there are few women among them. This recognition for Assumpção also reflects the growing importance of women in the aviation sector and in the leadership of large companies.
