Heli Austria kits out MD902s with specialised medical racks
The configuration of the medical racks ensures that vital medical equipment is easily accessible during flight. The rack offers flexible configuration options that allow for variable arrangement of the equipment.

Heli Austria has collaborated with German Part 21J and 21G organisation SPAES to install five medical racks in its fleet of MD902 helicopters.

The rotorcraft are critical for HEMS missions and have been upgraded with additional medical equipment, including three essential units, two storage bags and two oxygen cylinders.

The medical rack is mounted in the passenger compartment between two rear-facing seats and is oriented against the direction of flight. It securely holds a Defigard Touch 7 device, a Weinmann MeduMat Standard device and a Boscarol BSU212 OB 10000 FM MSU device. This configuration ensures that vital medical equipment is easily accessible during flight. The rack offers flexible configuration options that allow for variable arrangement of the equipment.

The project began with receiving exact measurements and requirements from Heli Austria. SPAES then created a preliminary design, followed by building a mockup using aluminium, styrofoam and 3D printed parts. This mockup was tested directly in the helicopter to ensure fit and functionality. Based on feedback from the customer, the design was refined and the final version produced. The first rack was assembled and tested on site with the customer, allowing minor adjustments to be made before the remaining four racks were built. Each rack went through functional testing to ensure each bracket and unit worked as expected before the final delivery to Heli Austria.

The rack is designed to be both robust and adaptable. The adjustable length allows for variable attachment to the ceiling. The project was completed in SPAES' own EASA Part 21J design facility and in its' own EASA Part 21G manufacturing facility.
