Audio Authority unveils White Lightning SmartGPU
The SmartGPU provides operators with the tools they need to streamline ops and enhance safety. The ability to monitor and operate remotely gives owners peace of mind that aircraft and battery are in optimal condition.
The White Lightning SmartGPU has an advanced user interface, remote operation and control via a mobile device app, and an option for full-time battery maintenance charging.

Audio Authority has launched its newest evolution of the White Lightning brand of ground power units, the SmartGPU, with feature sets designed for the needs of a wide range of general aviation aircraft, from piston-powered to mid-size business jets.

For its public debut, the SmartGPU has been selected to power the new Piper M700 Fury while on display at Piper's EAA AirVenture exhibit. The SmartGPU will provide safe, reliable power through the aircraft's external power receptacle to energise its advanced Garmin 3000 flight deck systems, external and interior lighting, flight control motors, hydraulics, ventilation and other airframe accessories.

The White Lightning SmartGPU is unique with its advanced user interface, remote operation and control via a mobile device app, and its option for full-time battery maintenance charging.

Initially, two 28V models of the SmartGPU will be offered with similar features and capabilities, differing primarily in maximum current output. The Model S28114 will provide up to 114 amperes of 28VDC power and meets the demanding needs of turboprop and business jet operators, offering a compact, lightweight design without compromising on power. The Model 28054 provides all the same features and up to 54 amperes at 28VDC, generally well-suited for piston powered aircraft. Both models come complete with heavy-duty output cables and input cord sets.

Key features of the White Lightning SmartGPU include:

- Intelligent connectivity: Utilising Bluetooth and wi-fi technology, operators can remotely monitor and control the SmartGPU using an iOS and Android-compatible mobile app, providing unprecedented flexibility and convenience.

- Advanced metering: Equipped with a 4” TFT display, the SmartGPU provides real-time digital output metering and operational information, empowering users with precise data at their fingertips.

- Enhanced power: With models ranging from 54A to 114A at 28 volts, the SmartGPU delivers robust and reliable power, catering to a wide range of aircraft, from piston-powered planes to mid-sized business jets.

- Future-ready design: Built with scalability and longevity in mind, the SmartGPU is designed to adapt to future technological advancements, ensuring continued relevance and performance for years to come.

“We are thrilled to introduce the White Lightning SmartGPU at Oshkosh AirVenture. We believe it represents a significant leap forward in technology, providing aircraft operators with the tools they need to streamline operations and enhance safety,” says founder and president Jon Sisk. “The ability to monitor and operate the GPU unit remotely gives aircraft owners peace of mind knowing that their aircraft and its battery are in optimal condition, ready to fly when they are.”

Other highlights include:

- Universal, worldwide AC input compatibility with provided cables

- Graphical, colour display with large digital volt/amp output meters

- Rugged, heavy-gauge aircraft cable with AN2551 external power plug

- Multiple aircraft/operator profiles with event logging

- USB ports for data downloads, firmware upgrades and device charging

- Programmable auto-shutdown timer to prevent inadvertent unattended GPU operation

Initially, the SmartGPU will be available in two models: a 3,200W unit (114A @ 28 volts) and a 1,500W unit (54A at 28 volts), both sharing a common chassis and feature set.

“With its unparalleled features and capabilities, the SmartGPU is poised to revolutionise ground power operations for aircraft of higher performance, weight and speed,” concludes Sisk.
