Siam Seaplane launches water-borne services in Jomtien
Seaplane operations can open up a whole new future for Thailand tourism by unlocking remote destinations, both islands and mainland, which presently are difficult to be served by existing scheduled airline routes.

Thailand-based Cessna Caravan operator Siam Seaplane is set to introduce seaplane services to Phuket and its surrounding provinces by the end of 2024 in an endeavour to transform Thailand's tourism landscape and enhance accessibility to its stunning marine and waterfront destinations.

In May, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AeroThai) jointly organised a three day workshop entitled 'First Seaplane Operations Toward Thailand's Aviation Hub', to foster integration and collaboration among public and private sector entities to spearhead seaplane operations in the country.

Siam Seaplane has been leading seaplane developments in Thailand since 2019, and has been working closely with the relevant authorities, luxury resorts, destination management companies and marinas. For its initial sites in Phuket and Phang Nga provinces, it is championing a number of water landing and take off sites that have been thoroughly assessed for technical, operational and commercial feasibility. The first is to be Ao Po Pier, the embarkation point for countless voyages and a testament to Phuket's maritime heritage.

The operator has also committed to build a seaplane hub at the Ocean Marina Jomtien, South East Asia's largest marina and yacht charter services on Thailand's eastern seaboard, alongside the Ocean Marina Resort. Following an MOU established years prior, the two companies are poised to go ahead, enhancing the tourism appeal of Jomtien and Pattaya but also providing a gateway to Thailand's eastern seas. Slated for 2024, the Ocean Marina Jomtien will host a water landing and take off site to cater to give guests direct access to yacht charters, luxury accommodations at Ocean Marina Resort and expedited travel within the Chonburi area and beyond. Siam Seaplane will offer both local scenic flights and broader connections, linking Jomtien with major Thai destinations.

Ahead of the seaplane launch Ocean Property, in collaboration with Siam Scenic, a branch of Siam Seaplane, will be offering an array of ground-to-ground charter and scenic flights, connecting U-Tapao airport with major domestic hubs such as Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Hua Hin and Samui airports, in addition to private airfields like Best Ocean Airpark and Klong 11.

Seaplanes can make Thailand's island attractions more accessible, while ensuring no negative environmental impact on local community support. Central to Siam Seaplane's mission is the promotion of sustainable tourism, with a focus on empowering local communities. By prioritising community engagement and employing local personnel, Siam Seaplane endeavours to create meaningful employment opportunities and foster socio-economic development in the region.
