The NBAA will award its John P 'Jack' Doswell Award to Nel Stubbs, a pre-eminent authority whose guidance has optimised the ownership and use of business aircraft for countless entrepreneurs and companies worldwide. The association will present Stubbs with the award during the 2023 NBAA-BACE taking place 17-19 October in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Nel's unequalled ability to analyse and articulate critical considerations for optimising business aircraft use has been essential to success for organisations of all types and sizes,” says NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are pleased to present her with our Doswell Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions and service to the business aviation community.”
Stubbs is widely considered a foremost strategist in aviation tax planning and audits, cost and financial analysis, budgeting, and aircraft ownership and operating structures. She joined aviation research and consulting firm Conklin & de Decker in 1999 and became an owner in 2000, remaining with the company when it was acquired by JSSI in April 2018. She currently serves as vice president of JSSI's Conklin & de Decker business unit.
Prior to her current role, Stubbs was a longtime employee of NBAA, joining the association in 1987 and becoming senior manager, tax issues in January 1993. In that position, she was instrumental in developing NBAA's tax programme, including the association's State Tax Report, which remains an industry standard, as well as in forming the NBAA Tax Committee, on which she served as initial staff liaison.
Stubbs currently serves on the NATA Air Charter Committee, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Business Industry Advisory Board and the NBAA Tax Committee.
She has previously served on the NBAA Advisory Board, HAI's Finance and Leasing Committee and on boards of directors for the National Aircraft Finance Association and the Arizona Business Aviation Association. Stubbs also is a frequently requested speaker at industry seminars and forums and has been widely published in the aviation trade press.
Created in 1987 in memory of Jack Doswell, a steadfast industry advocate and business aviation pioneer, NBAA's Doswell Award honours high standards for lifelong individual achievement on behalf and in support of the aims, goals and objectives of business aviation.
