EHang's Unmanned Aircraft Cloud System (UACS) has been officially approved for test flights by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), a vital foundation for commercial operations after type certification of its EH216-S eVTOL. The approval serves as a significant safeguard for large-scale operational safety and management.
In the increasingly widespread application of unmanned aircraft in the field of low-altitude operations, UACS technology will be an important safeguard for secure and efficient operations. EHang's UACS features functions for management of airspace, UAVs, flight plans and operators etc, enabling cluster management of multiple aircraft within the same airspace.
EHang has developed comprehensive strategies for future commercial operations. Over the past two years, while carrying out trial operations with the CAAC alongside its application for type certification, the developer has conducted over 9,300 successful low-altitude tourism flight trials in 20 locations across 18 cities in China. During the course of this the company has also seen the emergence of a professional and well-trained AAV operation team.
Meanwhile, in recent years, a series of favourable policies have been introduced by the Chinese State Council that encourage local governments to support the development of the low-altitude airspace. EHang has gained recognition from multiple city governments for its technologies and expertise following the trials, and has become an important partner in promoting the expansion and implementation of UAM applications. Since July 2023, it has been formulating UAM use cases, systems and routes with the Bao'an District Government of Shenzhen City, with the aim that the city becomes a national low-altitude development demonstration city.
EHang chairman and CEO Huazhi Hu says: “EHang's UACS trial operation has received official approval from the CAAC, indicating that EHang has been recognised by the authority of the national regulator. From an unmanned aerial vehicle system to the UACS, as well as operating teams and service platforms, EHang has made comprehensive and sufficient preparation for upcoming commercial operations after years of planning.”
