Why visit ACE ’25?
All general aviation air traffic at Liege airport in Belgium will now be handled exclusively by ASL Jet Handling. Benelux business jet operator and FBO network ASL Group says it has opened one of the most modern, safe and green general aviation terminals with hangarage in Europe.
ASL Group is basing one of its two medical Learjet 45s at the terminal, while the other locates in Cologne/Bonn. A new subsidiary, ASL Fly Med, will perform intercontinental medical evacuations and repatriations.
Liege will also be home to the group’s ASL Academy, where pilots will train on its two recently acquired Pipistrel Velis Electro two seat electric aircraft.
The new terminal building was constructed of eco-friendly wood, which allows the support structure to capture CO2. Attention was given to thermal as well as acoustic insulation, and it is equipped with camera surveillance and a fire detection system. A central building automation management system monitors energy and air quality, and even the sensor lighting is smart. Rain water is recycled and a micro treatment plant will take care of waste water.
Beyond the reception desk, the new GA terminal offers many functional spaces, as well as a large rooftop terrace overlooking the airport.
The terminal comes with a new aircraft hangar, with sufficient clear height and open space to store larger business jets. A six section sliding gate at the front of the hangar is remote controlled, and the hangar also includes an office for ground operations. Both the hangar and the building are equipped with floor heating, active daylight lighting controls and infrared camera surveillance.
The contract with Liege airport enables ASL to build more hangars around the apron in the coming years, if required.
