Navajo advocate Moyer professes to fly in the face of virus
Moyer Aviation is based at the Pocono Mountains Airport (MPO) in Mt. Pocono, Pa. The airport boosts two runways and three Instrument approaches. The operator may be small, but it is certainly plucky.
The Moyer team has declared that it is ready to serve in these times of crisis.

Moyer Aviation, a small operation that offers charter, flight training and maintenance and flies eight aircraft from a Cessna 162 to three Navajo Chieftains, has explained how it is adapting its business model amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Our charter flights are generally in the 600 mile max range, but we just recently brought a family back from Miami to Wilkes Barre, Pa," states owner Vern Moyer.

“When the COVID-19 virus hit we continued to operate our charter operation. Air transportation and support is considered essential air service. Our maintenance facility is also operating in support of the flight operation. We have since temporarily closed the flight school. All operations are following strict guidelines as to safety as recommended by the CDC and WHO. Aircraft are thoroughly disinfected before and after all flights. Passengers and crew are checked closely before boarding.

“Myself and Jean Moyer have been in business going on 40 years next year. We have gone through hard times before, recessions, September 11 and so on. The first thing we learned about this kind of thing is you can’t panic. You need to tighten your belt and work harder with less. About six of our aircraft are not flying and costs still go on. We are looking at reducing insurance costs by insuring only ground coverage for those not flying.

“We think our Navajos are a bargain in tough times because they provide a comfortable cabin similar to some turbo-Props at reasonable speed. These aircraft are kept in top condition by our own maintenance shop and pilots have many hours in these aircraft. The recent suspension of the 7.5 per cent federal excise tax on these aircraft is another reason to choose these aircraft for passenger and package deliveries.

“Our maintenance shop is run by Kurt Singer who has been with Moyer for 35 years. We have built a reputation for expert workmanship as well as fair prices. As a Cessna and Beechcraft service centre we can offer experience and service with factory backup. Because we operate Navajo’s many private owners choose Moyer to maintain their Navajos because of our familiarity and parts availability.

“Our flight school has also more than 40 years’ experience. An FAA approved flight school we are able to offer training for all ratings and as affiliate of Liberty University offer a professional pilot degree. Most of our training, however is at the Private pilot level for persons wanting to learn to fly for pleasure or business."

Moyer Aviation is based at the Pocono Mountains Airport(MPO) in Mt. Pocono, Pa. The airport boosts two runways the longest being 5,001 and three Instrument approaches. Many operators find this to be a good alternate fuel stop for flights in to nearby New York & New Jersey airports. This progressive airport authority is constantly making improvements and is in the process of building new T hangars and larger ramp space.

As the US recovers from this pandemic, Moyer Aviation says it is here to serve.
