Incoming IBAC chairman Alnaqbi takes the helm
Ali Ahmed Alnaqbi needs no introduction, as his name is well-known in business aviation circles. He worked towards the formation of MEBAA in 2006, and has now been elected chair of IBAC.
The choice of Ali Alnaqbi as IBAC chairman came as no surprise.

The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) has appointed new governing board executive officers, selected at its 70th meeting last week following NBAA-BACE.

Ali Alnaqbi, founder and chairman of MEBAA, will become chairman of the IBAC Governing Board from 1 January 2020. He is currently vice chair of the board. EBAA vice chair Juergen Wiese will become IBAC vice chairman, while Sudhir Nayak of the Business Aircraft Operators Association of India will continue to serve as the treasurer of the IBAC Governing Board.

“I appreciate the commitment to IBAC and the global business aviation community that each of these gentlemen has demonstrated in their participation in IBAC and their respective associations,” says director general Kurt Edwards. “It will be a pleasure to work with them and the board over the next three years as we expand IBAC to meet the needs of a growing, vibrant industry.”

Established in 1981, IBAC serves as an international voice for the business aviation community. IBAC governance is exercised through the governing board with representatives from each of the 14 member associations.

“While he remains chairman of the governing board through December 2019, I want to express my gratitude to Scott Macpherson of the Canadian Business Aviation Association for his service as chairman and vice chairman for the last six years,” says Edwards. “His insight, guidance and support have been invaluable to IBAC’s development.”

“I am honoured for this trust by the IBAC board in being elected as the chairman,” says Alnaqbi. “This opportunity to guide the business aviation sector not only in the MENA region but also globally is a big responsibility and it is a perfect synergy with my passion for the industry and previous achievements. No doubt we have a long way ahead of us and I look forward to driving the industry forward through IBAC in the next three years in this role.”
