The VK-2500PS-03 engine developed and manufactured by JSC UEC-Klimov, a part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec State Corporation, will be operated as part of the power plants of Russian civilian helicopters in India, following its type certificate validation by the country's civil aviation authority.
Obtaining a certificate of engine performance compliance with the Indian civil aviation authority means expanding the geography of sales and operation of the Russian Mi-171A2 helicopter.
The VK-2500PS-03 engine is the latest modification of the VK-2500 engine with improved performance. Certification tests of the engine in the Russian Federation were successfully completed in 2016. The main design difference of the VK-2500PS-03 is the presence of a digital control system such as FADEC. The overhaul and designated resource is two times higher than that of its predecessors. The VK-2500PS-03 engine gives helicopters fundamentally new opportunities for their operation in high altitude regions and areas with a hot climate.
“Design solutions implemented in the VK-2500PS-03 engine, an increase in PD modes and the use of a modern automatic control and monitoring system, allow the engine and helicopter not only to have more advantages compared to the previous generation of equipment, but also significantly increase the reliability and safety of operation. We plan to validate the VK-2500PS-03 engine type certificate in China, South Korea, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, as well as expanding the network of service centres,” notes Evgeny Prodanov, VK-2500 programme director, TV3-117 and chief designer of JSC UEC-Klimov.
