FloridaMarathon Aviation has broken ground on an expansive new FBO and hangar complex for Florida Keys travellers. A celebratory event took place September 24, with airport officials, the board of county commissioners, local dignitaries and members of the Marathon Aviation team.
Newly-unveiled plans include an Ernest Hemingway inspired FBO facility with relaxation and recreation areas, and outdoor viewing decks. The exterior and interior are designed to offer a modern Key West chic charm. The hangar, with 28 ft doors, is conveniently located for easy taxiway, runway and highway access. Construction is being led by AMH Construction, an Orlando-based construction firm, while the design was a culmination of efforts by Becci Meier of Becci Meier Designs. Foundation work has started, and construction will continue throughout the rest of 2019 with an anticipated opening in early 2020.
“This week we officially begin construction on a new, iconic FBO to serve as a launch pad for US Customs and complement the region's tourism, five-star resorts and world-renowned fishing industry. Our investment in this venture reflects our deep, long-term commitment to this local community, its economy and our customers. Whether guests are staying to indulge or only here for an overnight, it's our mission to provide a fully immersive, luxury Middle Keys experience. This new facility will help us accomplish that,” states Marathon Aviation owner Marty Hiller.
With expedited customs, 24/7 service, a direct from UG448 approach, attentive concierge support, no wait times and a 5,008 ft runway, Marathon is considered to be an ideal entry point in the region, with well-known resorts of Cheeca Lodge, Hawks Cay, Isla Bella and Little Palm Island in close proximity. Marathon Aviation is an Avfuel-branded FBO and participates in AVTRIP rewards and Avfuel Contract Fuel.
Marathon Aviation Associates (MAA) owns and operates two branded FBOs at the Marathon International airport. Marathon General Aviation provides aviation gasoline and related services on the east end of the airport, while Marathon Jet Center provides jet A fuel and associated services mid-field and on the west end of the airport. Set on 13 islands called the Middle Keys, Marathon is a city known for tourism, fishing, resorts and beautiful barrier reefs, making the Marathon Florida Keys airport a high-profile destination.
