Air bp has revealed the steps it is taking to reduce carbon emissions in business aviation. “Our view is that, irrespective of the oil price, this industry will have to change its approach to the environment,” says general manager of general aviation Miguel Moreno. “It is not easy to do everything we need to do, but we are trying to move in the right direction with our concept: reduce, replace, neutralise. The concept is to use biojet instead of using jet fuel, and use unleaded avgas too. We are looking at where we can get the product, because production is limited. We are working with a refinery in Norway, and so we are able to produce biojet that is approved by all the manufacturers.
“It is the same with unleaded avgas, for which we have installed a self service unleaded avgas machine at Kjeller airport in Norway. Our aim is to have 20 airports in the area with unleaded avgas available.”
Moreno believes that the perfor-mance of the biofuel is exactly the same, or even better than, the regular fuel and that unleaded avgas is much better for the hygiene of the engine.
“My next step is getting biojet in other airports, and unleaded avgas too,” he explains. “Fedex is working with us in all this and is fully dedicated, and RocketRoute too. All of this is putting out a good message.”
