The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), a professional body dedicated to the aerospace community, is to confer a fellowship on Will Curtis, managing director at London Biggin Hill Airport.
The award recognises Curtis' contribution to the development of business aviation as a professional pilot and in former senior management aircraft operations roles at Gold Air, Rizon Jet and Perfect Aviation. His skill and experience of 20 years is now benefitting the management of Biggin Hill.
Appointed MD in October 2013, he has shared responsibility for a full public consultation regarding an extension to airport operating hours, which gained overwhelming public support among the local community. He has assisted the development of a full business and investment plan for the future of the airport operating company, promoted Biggin Hill as a gateway to London and also as a home base for London-based business aircraft and support and service organisations. The airport's board, of which Curtis is a member, also plans to create an aerospace technical college, a luxury hotel and a development centre leading to increased investment and an additional 2,300 jobs and apprenticeships by 2030.
RAeS president Martin Broadhurst says: “Fellowship (FRAeS) is the highest grade attainable and is only bestowed upon those in the profession of aeronautics or aero-space who have made an outstanding contribution to the profession, attained a position of high respon-sibility and who have extensive experience of high quality. Fellowship is highly regarded in the aerospace and aviation industry and it is fitting that Will is being recognised for his contribution to our industry.”
