Jet Aviation Basel is adding nearly 340,000 sq. ft. of hangar, shop and ramp space within the next 18 months. It will open a new hangar as an extension to one of the company's six current hangars in February 2007. Additionally, the EuroAirport board has approved the development of the south zone of the airport, enabling Jet Aviation Basel to build another wide-body hangar to be completed in the first half of 2008, large enough to accommodate aircraft up to the size of the Airbus 380 and Boeing 747-8.
The largest expansion of Jet Aviation Basel in its 39 year history began last year when the former Crossair hangar was leased, increasing the company's hangar space by 30 per cent.
"On any given day, the facility hosts an average of more than 60 heads-of-state or corporate aircraft for reasons ranging from completions and refurbishment to painting or maintenance services," ceo Heinz Koehli says.
Construction of a hangar that can accommodate wide-body aircraft up to the size of an Airbus 330/340 or Boeing 767 will begin soon, with a completion date expected in February 2007.
The south zone project will involve an 83,528 sq. ft. wide-body hangar, a 43,056 sq. ft. building for shops and technical offices, and 172,223 sq. ft of ramp space.
