Gestair notes a rise in new user leisure travellers
Gestair has been able to take advantage of the reduction in commercial flights, and its MRO is consistently growing too. As well as recently adding a Sovereign+, the company has secured a versatile AOC from Malta.

Spanish operator Gestair recently added a Sovereign+ to its fleet and the company says the aircraft has produced ‘extraordinary’ results. It expects to add further aircraft this year and has also recently secured a Maltese AOC.

“The pandemic will have delayed our plans somewhat, but the roadmap is clear and we are on it,” says GM Carlos Gericó. “We have a very new, versatile and varied fleet. Traffic within Europe and to the US and the rest of America is traditionally the most demanded by clients of Gestair. In terms of customer profile, the professional predominates but there is also leisure transport to which new customers have come since the beginning of the pandemic who previously didn't use corporate aviation and now do so for flexibility, on routes that regular commercial airlines no longer do and for security and trust in our anti COVID protocols.

“On occasion we have made less common flights for the repatriation of citizens, but nothing for which Gestair is not fully prepared.”

The Gestair group has two fundamental branches: air charter and MRO. The MRO has been consistently growing and has done so again under the effects of COVID. Airlines have flown less due to the air restrictions that affected and continue to affect total traffic, because there are certain flights that can't be made. “However, our clients are solid and the core of the business has not been affected,” continues Gericó. “So we have responded by keeping all staff, turning to our clients, and working and developing new projects. We have implemented a pioneering anti-COVID system that strengthened our customers' trust.”

This year Gestair will inaugurate a second hangar in Madrid-Barajas, which will allow it to exceed 22,000 sqm for maintenance and hangarage for itself and for third parties, and the company will continue to grow in aircraft under management in its two AOCs – Spain and Malta – and under NCC.
