A scheduled rotation between the current H130 and the new one will allow Enloe to extend the life of both helicopters. The current backup aircraft, a 23 year old AStar, will be retired.

The FAA has issued a Restricted Category SAC for the S-70M, opening the doors for US operators to purchase straight from the factory. The first has been delivered to San Diego Gas & Electric for wild fire service.

Compared to LACoFD's S-70A Firehawks, the S-70i model brings more power, greater manoeuvrability and lift capabilities, as well as enhanced flight safety. San Diego and Cal Fire are equally well-equipped.
