Toho Air, headquartered in Tokyo with more than 60 years of experience, operates commuter helicopter services linking together the six major Izu islands. It is well versed in the AW139 and has added another unit.

The AW139 has proven extremely successful in Japan; those in service there have logged in excess of 110,000 flight hours, performing several utility operations, as well as supporting several prefectures and city authorities.

Around 160 helicopters of various types, including the AW169, are in service in Japan, used for a wide range of missions from EMS, SAR, fire-fighting and disaster relief to VIP/corporate transport and news gathering.
