The G280 is a twin engine, super midsize business jet designed by Gulfstream and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries. It was announced on 5 October, 2008 as a replacement for the G200. The first flight took place on 11 December, 2009 in Tel Aviv and the G280 was certified in September 2012 by both the FAA and Israel’s CAAI.
The G280 incorporates enhancements in aerodynamics, avionics and propulsion compared to its predecessor, the G200. It has a longer cabin length - external fuselage dimensions remain unchanged but the rear fuselage fuel tank was eliminated to add 17” of usable interior area; Honeywell HTF 7250G turbofan engines; a T-tail; trimmable horizontal stabiliser; and a hybrid flight control system. The airfoil redesign also incorporates aspects of the G550 wing, improving the take off, landing and climb performance figures of the smaller G280.
The G280 can fly for eight hours at Mach 0.80, and can carry up to 19 passengers and two pilots from London to New York or Singapore to Dubai. It is certified for steep approach operations.
