Named after the Brazilian river that flows from Mato Grosso into the Amazon, the EMB 121 Xingu is a twin turboprop fixed wing corporate transport for up to eight passengers and was the first pressurised aircraft produced and constructed in Brazil.
The EMB-121 Xingu coupled the Bandeirante's wing and engines with an all new fuselage. It flew for the first time on 10 October, 1976, a production aircraft followed on 20 May, 1977 and the first customer delivery took place later that same year. More than half the production models were used for military operations.
The EMB-121 is powered by two 680 shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A28 turboprops driving three blade constant speed Hartzell propellers.
The EMB121B Xingu II variant was given two 850 shp PT6A42s driving four blade constant speed Dowty props. It also had increased fuel tankage and seating capacity for up to nine passengers thanks to a slightly stretched fuselage. It made its first flight on 4 September, 1981 and production ceased in August 1987.
