On 5 May, 1969 Dassault announced that it would design a prototype mini Falcon, derived from the Mystère 20, seating between four to seven passengers.
Provisionally equipped with two General Electric CJ 610 jet engines, the aircraft made its first flight at Bordeaux-Mérignac on 1 December, 1970. It displayed fighter aircraft characteristics and required a modification of the original airfoil as well as improvement of high speed stability and flight control parameters. Re-engined with Garrett TFE 731-2s, the production version Falcon 10 made its maiden flight in October 1971. Certification was received in September 1973.
The light twin turbofan Falcon 100 came into production in 1983. It is a heavier version of the Falcon 10 that can seat up to nine passengers, with a larger luggage compartment and a glass cockpit. The 100 is powered by two Honeywell TFE 731-2-1C engines rated at 3,230 lbs of thrust each.
Production of the Falcon 10/100 ended in 1989.
